Alfred Melvin Baggett, 76, of Memphis, TN passed away at home surrounded by family on August 26, 2014. He was born in Vredenburgh, AL on July 17, 1938 to Alice L Shirah and Alfred W Baggett. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Puerto Rico, enjoying time on his motorcycle with the wind on his face. He retired from Memphis State as the Assistant Director of Systems Development. He loved spending time with family and collecting guns, knives and cast iron cookware. It was rare to see Mel without a book in hand or a dearly loved pet in his lap. Survived by his wife Laura Kathleen Baggett, 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his grandson. Services will be held on August 30 at 10am with visitation at 9am. Donations requested to Wings Cancer Foundation.
