Obituary

Alice Ann (Poirrier) Broussard passed away peacefully on October 11, 2021, in Memphis, TN. Born on September 20, 1926 in Edgard, LA to
Septime and Mary (Navarra) Poirrier.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, Meryl C. Broussard Sr., her son Meryl C. Broussard Jr., and her sister Estelle (Poirrier) Papania. In her passing, she leaves her six remaining children: Charles Broussard, of Cincinnati, OH, Paula (Jim) Mohead of Dyersburg, TN, Mary Lynn (Carey) Huguet, of New Orleans, LA, Kim (Bill) Bevis of Knoxville, TN, Lisa (Pat) Ryan of Lawrence, KS, Tina (John) O'Brien of Memphis, TN, and her daughter in law Florida Broussard, of Vienna, VA. She also leaves twelve grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren, her seven remaining siblings, many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and wonderful neighbors.


After Alice Ann graduated from Edgard High School, she then in 1945, received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (at the age of 18), from
Loyola University in New Orleans, and in 1982 she received an honorary Doctorate of Pharmacy from her Alma mater. Alice Ann began her
Pharmacy career at Touro Infirmary and Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. She then took time away from Pharmacy to be an at home mom to her growing family. In 1966, her husband's job transfered the family to Memphis, TN. In 1971 she returned to the practice of Pharmacy at John Gaston, the City of Memphis Hospital (The MED). She retired in 1986. Throughout her lifetime she volunteered and served in leadership roles as a Girl Scout Leader in New Orleans, and with the PTA at Bishop Byrne High School, in Memphis. For 10 years she volunteered with the Whitehaven TN, Community Development Cooperation, and for 24 years organized the volunteers for the United Cerebral Palsy, Elvis Presley, 5K Run water stop near her home. She also with her husband delivered Meals on Wheels (MIFA) for 10 years in Memphis, TN. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, wine making, collecting recipes and cookbooks.

Friends and family will be received at Saint Paul Catholic Church, 1425 E. Shelby Drive, Memphis, TN, 38116 on October 16, 2021,
from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Forest Hill South Cemetery, in the Old Rugged Cross section, 2545 E.
Holmes Road, Memphis, TN 38118.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be sent to MIFA (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association) 910 Vance Avenue, Memphis, TN, 38126 or Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Saint Paul Catholic Church.
