Obituary

Alvie Napier, 84, of Germantown, TN passed away at his home on October 18, 2012. Alvie was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy in the Pacific. He had a great love for God, his family and music, and was known for his beautiful bass voice. He was affectionately known as the "Candy Man" by the members of his church. He was a deacon in the Baptist Church for 59 years and served on countless boards as well as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader and choir member. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Beni Kedem Shrine. He retired from American Electric Power after 45 years of service where he was the supervisor of Electrical Maintenance at John E. Amos Power Plant. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Franklin and Maltie Maynard Napier; his brothers, Orville Napier (Mary), Cletis Napier (Edna) and identical twin brother, Almos Napier (Betty). He is survived by the love of his life, Dolly Jean Isaac Napier whom he met in the second grade and was married to for 67 years; son, William Napier (Pat); granddaughter, Stephanie Napier Hathcock (Richard); great-grandchildren, Caroline Grace Hathcock and Thomas Thornton Napier Hathcock, all of Germantown, TN; sister, Betty Lambert of Logan, WV. Funeral services will be held at Covenant Baptist Church, 3170 Houston Levee Rd., Collierville on Monday with visitation at 11 a.m. and funeral service at 12 p.m. Burial will be in Logan, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Covenant Baptist Church Building Fund.
