Obituary

Annie Christine Henning, 86, died at home surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved unconditionally and she was loved by all that knew her. Chris was born in Fowlkes, TN, on December 13, 1927, and died on July 13, 2014. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband of 68 years, Walter W. Henning; daughters, Carrie Thornton Akey (Don) and Sandra Rice (Don); her son, Phillip Henning (Frankie); grandsons, Lee Thornton (Amanda), Marc Henning (Alona) and Eric Thornton (Carrie); great-grandchildren, Victoria Thornton, Nicholas Thornton, Erin Rose Thornton and Lily Thornton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Elmer and Carrie Lee Roach, son, Walter Henning Jr., and brother, Eddie Elmer Roach Jr. God, family and church were Chris' greatest joys in life. She was a loyal member of Grimes Memorial United Methodist Church for sixty years. In 1987, she retired from Kellogg's and began her "career" of card clubs, The Story Tellers League, The Book Club, The Home Makers Club, traveling with Walter and the Carsons and entertaining friends and family at her home. Chris had a life well lived, was an example of everything good in life and was the gold standard of a family matriarch. She leaves a huge void in our family, but we all know she has gone on to Heaven as one of God's beautiful angels and will prepare a place there for each of us....just like she always did here. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers for their love and dedication in taking such great care of Chris over the past few years, especially the staff at Crossroads Hospice. Visitation will be at Forest Hills East on Tuesday, July 15, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Burial will be Wednesday, July 16 at 10 a.m. Memorials can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
