Obituary

Arlin "Pat" Patterson went to be with the Lord on 5/12/25 at the age of 99. Pat was born on 11/28/25 in Memphis, TN to Arlin and Mary Patterson. He attended Messick High School and Memphis State College where he graduated with honors with a BS degree in Business Administration. While there he was a member of Phi Kappa Fraternity where he served as President. He was also selected to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.

Pat served in the US Navy in the South Pacific from 1944-46 where he was a communications signalman. He served on the USS Amsterdam and the USS Flint under 2 Commodores as their personal communications signalman. His ship berthed next to the USS Missouri on which the surrender of Japan took place. He was able to watch the signing of Japan's surrender through binoculars which "somehow" ended up in his duffle bag!

Pat met his future wife, Joyce, at Memphis State and they were married in 1948. Their marriage was a true love story and they were married for 70 years raising 2 daughters who, in turn, gave them 5 grandsons, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

Pat was a distinguished salesman who owned his own company, Business Products, Inc. He was very active in serving his community serving in key roles in The Exchange Club, Memphis Sales Manager's Club and the Children's Health Center. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1951 and 1953.

Pat loved his church. He was an usher, Sunday School teacher and financial leader.

Above all else, though, Pat's first devotion was to his family. His quick sense of humor and his love for everyone made it easy to admire and love him.

Pat is predeceased by his wife, Joyce. He leaves behind his daughters Linda (Cal) and Marcia (Steve); 5 grandsons Jeremy (Jaimyn), Justin (Natalie), Nick (Isabel), Chris (Susie) and Brett (Brittany) as well as 12 great-grandchildren and one great great grandson.
