Arthur Lee Brown, Sr, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2022, at home with family in South Sauty, Alabama. He was born June 12, 1926, to Ruby Virginia Harris Brown and Harry Arthur Brown near Fredricksburg, VA. He grew up in Richmond and later lived with relatives in Charlottesville. Arthur enlisted in the Army Air Force during WWII and served as an aircraft mechanic in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. When the war ended, he returned to Virginia and enrolled in the engineering program at the University of Virginia. In Charlottesville, he met and married Ruby Jean Holt. In 1946 the couple moved to Memphis, TN where he enrolled at the Southern College of Watchmaking. Mr. Brown became a watchmaker and jewelry store owner, retiring at age 94. He was a Good Shepherd United Methodist Church member for more than 40 years. He was a lifetime Mason and member of Alchymia Shrine Temple, a lifelong Republican, and a fervent sports fan, especially of the Memphis Grizzlies and the University of Memphis Tigers. Other interests were playing bridge and reading American history.

Family, friends, and colleagues, too many to be named, were always in the heart of Arthur and he will be greatly missed by all.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife Marion, and his only brother, Paul H. Brown. He is survived by daughters Judith K. Brown of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Peggy Hopper (Mark) South Sauty, Alabama; son Lee Brown (Amelia) of Bryson City, North Carolina; granddaughter, G. Blake Brown Peterson (Brian), great-grandchildren Caleb, Savannah, and Zachary Peterson, all of Danville, California.

Mr. Brown was interred at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis after a family graveside service on June 11, 2022.
