Obituary

Aubrey Davis, 96, transcensioned Sunday, August 4, 2019. He  was born April 12, 1923 in Collierville, TN to Minor and Georgia Davis.  He had 8 sisters and 8 brothers all who preceded him in death.  He professed hope in Christ at the age of 12 and became a member of Hebrew C.M.E. Church in Piperton, TN.  He went on to attend Mount Hebrew School until about the 7 th grade; after which, he later enrolled in a job core program and earned a certificate of completion.  Later, he was drafted into the United States Army.

In spite of Aubrey's limited educational background, he always loved a challenge.  He could remember facts and figures like a scholar.  This skill followed him into his golden years.  Family members marveled at his ability to recall details.

Following his discharge from the United States Army, Uncle Aubrey returned to his home in Collierville, TN where he met this beautiful young country girl named Mary Lee, and later married.  To this union a son was born, Patrick Durrell Davis, who preceded him in death.  This union lasted 58 years until his demise.  Uncle Aubrey worked as a cotton gin operator and a truck driver until he met with an accident that left him paralyzed.

Aubrey also had a passion for music, especially playing the guitar.  He also loved playing checkers "to win!".  He especially loved to challenge one of his favorite nephews, Frank Joyner to weekly bouts.  He loved being challenged!  If he lost the game, he would spend half of the night preparing to win the next one.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mary Lee Davis, who was his primary care giver for most of their marriage; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will gather to share memories, 5-7 pm, August 16, 2019 at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park-Midtown.  A  Celebration of Life will be held 12:00 pm, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Alpha Church Temple of the Living God, 1084 E.
