Barbara Williams Hinson, of Heber Springs, AR, passed away on April 14, 2012 at her home in Southridge Village Assisted Living. She was born July 28, 1929 in Shelby County, TN. She was the daughter of the late John and Marjorie Williams. In December 1948, she married James Hinson while both were students at Bethel College. After returning to Memphis, she earned her Master's Degree at Memphis State. Mrs. Hinson (Barbs) taught school for 25 years, with 23 of those at Sheffield High School in Memphis teaching English and Literature. In addition to her extraordinary passion for teaching, Barbs shared her experience as a former college cheerleader by serving as the sponsor for the cheer team at Sheffield. Barbs loved each and every one of her many students, often affectionately referring to them as her kids. James (Jimbo) and Barbs were blessed with four children: Allan Hinson of Memphis, Larry Hinson of Memphis, Jerry Hinson of Memphis, and Cristi Powell of Higden, AR. After retiring, Barbs and Jimbo moved to Pickwick, TN and later called the Greers Ferry Lake area home. Mrs. Hinson is lovingly survived by her four children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Forest Hill East Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road in Memphis on Saturday, April 21. Visitation will start at 1 p.m. with services beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will immediately follow the service. A Celebration of Life service will also be held in Greers Ferry, AR at a later date to be announced, for her many dear friends in the Greers Ferry Lake area.
