Benjamin Porter Turbeville, Jr., 92, of Memphis, passed away on June 11, 2016 in Jackson, Tennessee, where he had been in an assisted living facility for the past 10 months. He was born on March 14, 1924 to Benjamin Porter Turbeville, Sr. and Sarah Louise Heath. He served his country in the US Army 28th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II in Germany from 1942 through 1945. He graduated from William R. Moore College of Technology as an electrician and went to work for Skil Corporation where he stayed until retirement. He served God through his church and was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member for many years, first at Southern Avenue Baptist Church, then at his current church home at Colonial Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his lovely wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Benson nine years ago. He leaves two daughters, Patricia Ann Johnson (Ashley) of Jackson, TN, Jean Marie Brewer (Mike) of Spring Hill, TN, four grandchildren, Ashley Johnson (Andrea) of Medina, TN, Becky Turcotte of Somerville, TN, Morgan Brewer of Nashville, TN, and Travis Brewer (Leslie) of Spring Hill, TN; and one great-granddaughter, Katy Lynn Johnson of Medina. He also is survived by a sister, Carolyn Cuneo of Nesbit, MS. His hobbies in earlier years were fishing, camping, building model trains, and woodworking. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16 and service will be 2 p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, East, with interment following.
