Bernadette Dowdy of Memphis passed away on December 13, 2013 at the age of 96. Bernadette was born in Chicago, IL, and moved to Memphis with her husband and children in 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil James Dowdy, who died in April 1987, her parents Lynn and Caroline Grace, her sisters, Carol C. Walsh, Anna Mae Dorsch, one brother, Thomas J. Grace and son-in-law Charles Tuthill. She is survived by her children Dennis (Amy) Dowdy of Memphis, Donna (Byron) Cox of Chattanooga, TN, Terry (Bob) Dowdy of St. Louis, MO, Mary Tuthill of Memphis, and Patricia Dennis of Lake St. Louis, MO, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law Tom Walsh, of Chicago, IL, several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, December 16 with Father Phahm, officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Peter Villa prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the Monastery of St. Clare, 1310 Dellwood Ave., Memphis, TN, 38137, or to another charitable organization of your choice.
