Obituary

BERNARD F. "Bob" HADAWAY, JR., 79, of Cordova, TN, surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014. He was born in Memphis, TN, to Bernard Forrest Hadaway, Sr., and Helen Vookles Hadaway. Mr. Hadaway was a graduate of Treadwell High School in Memphis, TN, and subsequently attended the Memphis Police Academy, beginning his work in 1958. During his tenure with the police department he worked patrol for six years, where he had the privilege of serving security detail for Elvis Presley and Bob Hope. He was promoted to detective in the Emergency Squad, and later served in the Robbery Department and the Check Squad. Upon his retirement from the police department he worked for Shelby County Government from 1977 until 1981, and then served as a state investigator for the Regulatory Boards. Mr. Hadaway was a self-taught, accomplished musician, playing numerous instruments, and serving as backup singer at Sun Studios for various celebrity musicians, such as Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. He was an amazing chef, fabulous storyteller, with a quick wit. He was a Mason and a member of the Frayser Jaycees. Mr. Hadaway enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He was a longtime member of Egypt Baptist Church, where he frequently served as interim choir director. He was preceded in death by his soulmate, wife of 56 years, Dorothy Pannell Hadaway. He leaves behind two beloved daughters, Patricia Hadaway Moore of Cordova, and Lisa Hadaway Blake (Michael) of Cordova; three grandsons: Camden Blake, Parker Blake, and Peyton Moore; one brother, James C. Hadaway (Betty) of St. Petersburg, Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to his caregivers, Helen Sutton and Barbara Canada, as well as the attentive staff of Crossroads Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children''s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society . Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 23 and Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, both at Forest Hill East Funeral Home.
