Betty Maylene Dacus of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully on January 24, 2015 at the age of 80. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 27 at Forest Hill Funeral Home on Kirby Whitten Pkwy from 6-8 pm with the service Wednesday, January 28 at 10 a.m. Burial will proceed after the service alongside her husband at Memphis Memorial Gardens on Germantown Parkway.
Maylene was born to Floyd and Maybell Winters. She married Royce Eugene Dacus in 1950. Maylene was a wonderful homemaker who raised their 5 children in Memphis. She and Royce were married for 62 years.
Maylene always made time to enjoy her grand and great grandchildren for the past 40 plus years. She worshiped with her church family at the Macon Road Church of Christ, where the ladies loved her.
She was known as Momma to her devoted children and cherished the times they gathered. In addition to her love of family; reading, cooking and the arts were among her favorite pastimes. Maylene was very creative and made unique crafts for all to enjoy.
Grandma, you will always be remembered by your children, your brother, and friends as the most loving, most gentle, and most positive influence in our lives.
Maylene is survived by her children, Janie Calhoun (John) of Michigan, Ronald Dacus (Cindy "CC"), Cindy Brown (Lloyd), and David Dacus (Linda) all of Memphis. One brother, Danny Winters (Sonya) of Los Angeles; two sisters, Nellie Powell and Shirley Powell, both of California; grandchildren Natalie Tyler (Adam), Dave Dacus, Elizabeth Monte (Stephen), Aimee Crask, Malinda Calhoun-Hurt, Andy Dacus, Nick Dacus, Greg Dacus, Jason Brown, Matthew Brown, and great-grandchildren, Faith and Gracie Tyler, Sophia and Lola Monte, Kathryn, Kamryn, Christian, Peyton, Landon and Preston, Timothy, Nicholas, Dalton. Preceding her in passing were her parents, husband, and daughter, Donna.
