Obituary

Betty Johnson Deckelman, age 85, passed away Friday, December 29, 2021 surrounded by her family.  Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She was also a believer in Christ and was baptized at Kensington Baptist Church on Winchester in Oakhaven, and we take comfort in knowing that she is with Him in heaven.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, G. D. "Bud" Deckelman, and is survived by her children, Sharon, Darrell, Peggy, and Kathy.  Betty was the rock of her family.  She loved her brothers and sisters dearly, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  Betty retired from Kellogg's in 1991 after 22 years of service.  Great friendships were made during that time, and there were about six ladies that were friends outside of work.  She also loved fishing, camping, and hanging out with her endless friends at Enid Lake, as well as sewing, having hand made all her girls' Barbie doll cloths, drapes, and many other items, as well as ceramics.  Once she moved to Olive Branch, she went crazy with building flower beds, which never seemed to stop expanding – she just couldn't stop herself.  She would plant flowers she received as gifts or cuttings she would bring home from a friend's house.  Betty is going to be deeply missed by her family and friends.  It is going to be difficult moving forward, but they all take comfort in that she has had a fulfilling life and is now with the Lord.
