Obituary

Billy Scott Watkins, 89, of Byhalia, MS, entered eternal rest with The Lord God Almighty on October 9, 2022. He was born May 23, 1933 in Pontotoc, MS to the late Lettie Ann and Eugene Scott Watkins. He gloried in being the "baby", the youngest of 14 children.

Brother Billy, as he was known to most, was born a farmer. While he enjoyed several secular vocations, his life's work began in 1956 when he was called to Preach the Gospel and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Bro. Billy was not only a pastor, preacher and evangelist, but also a talented musician and vocalist. In an article for the "Daily Journal" when asked about his preaching, he is quoted as saying "I know how to find that channel and let the Holy Ghost do the preaching." That is exemplary of his approach – he trusted God. Much like a farmer, he knew his job was to plant the seed, water the crops and trust God to do the rest. Surgeons cut – God heals.

Throughout his career, he was privileged to pastor for the first time in 1959 at Cedarview Pentecostal Church in Olive Branch, MS. He also pastored in Clarksdale, MS, Brookhaven, MS, McMinnville, TN and Millington, TN. His last pastoral duties were at Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church in Byhalia, MS. Even at 89 years of age, he still loved to preach. He remained obedient in following his calling confident in the knowledge that God's word "shall not return to me void. But it shall accomplish what I please." Isaiah

55:11. While his life was ministry and his calling was to spread the good news of Jesus Christ, Bro. Billy had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed riding for many years – the last when he was 80!

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Teresa, his children Annette (Rio) Watkins West, Mark (Sheila) Watkins, Paul (Donna) Watkins, Gregory (Paige) Watkins, and a special friend, Teresa Ann. Five grandchildren, Shawna (Tim) Noe, Jeffrey Watkins, Mark (Nikki) Watkins, Jr., James West and Andrew Watkins; nine great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, great granddaughter, Sydney, and his great grandson, Luke.
