BIRDIE MAE OSBORNE JAMES CARTWRIGHT PRICE, 98, died July 5, 2013 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Germantown, TN. An especially good cook, she made family gatherings forever memorable for her children and grand-children. Birdie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Jake James of Guys, TN who died shortly after marriage from a hunting accident; George Cartwright, her husband for nearly 50 years, who died in 1985; and her husband of her elder years, Raymond Price, whom she married when they were both in their 80s. She was also predeceased by her oldest son, Gerald James of Dexter, MO. She is survived by two children, David Cartwright of Dexter, MO and Shirley McKenzie (Ken) of Germantown, TN, with whom she resided in her final years, along with her granddaughter, Lynne McKenzie; her beloved daughter-in-law, Maxine, widow of son Gerald; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Thanks are given to two special caretakers, Sandra Shook of Horn Lake, MS and Shirley Reynolds of Byhalia, MS. Also for the extraordinary compassion and tenderness shown by the Methodist Alliance Hospice staff during the final weeks of her illness. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
