Carl McKee Hood, age 88, formerly of Blytheville, AR, son of the late Samuel McKee Hood and Iva Lawfield Hood, passed away Sunday, December 9 in a Memphis nursing home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Buchanan and son, John Samuel Hood; sisters, Mildred (Joe) Ramey, Helen (Wilbur) Oenning, twin sister Carlynn (George) Sites; brothers Eugene, Jack, and Kenneth Hood; and niece, Eugenia Oenning Miller. He also leaves nieces Judy Renn, Ivalyn Graser, Elaine Oenning Evans (Sam Higginbotham), Jeanne Lawson (Eugene), Karen (Haynes) Blank, Jacque (Patrick) Culnane, and sister-in-law Irma Huber Hood; nephews George E. Sites (Isabel), Kenneth, Keith and David Brian Hood of Tucson, AZ. Close family friends are Dr. William Langham (Angelica) and Lois Peoples. He also leaves numerous grand nieces and nephews. Elaine Evans has been the only close caregiver to Carl for the last fifteen months. Others were Sam, Bill, Karen, Haynes and Lois. Carl served in the 110th Seabees during WWII, and his work included the building of runways on Tinian and Saipan Islands from which B-29s bombed Japan into submission. He was present on Tinian the day that the Enola Gray took off for Hiroshima in August 1945. He again answered the call to Navy duty during the Korean War. He was employed for many years in sales and a former employee of Humco. Carl loved military history and his Sunday School Class. He was a long-time member of Bellevue Baptist Church. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 13 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home with burial following.
