Carlene Jewel Barton Lawrence, of Memphis, TN, born November 6, 1922 to the late Carl Jacob and Hattie Rhodes Barton, passed away on August 27, 2015. She graduated from Humes High School in 1940, served in the Women''s Army Corps during WWII from 1944-1945. Mrs. Lawrence worked for Hartwell Brothers, retired form Quaker Oats Company (Continental Grain Company), and was a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (formerly known as the National Assn. of Secretaries). She was married to the late John "Jack" Thomas Lawrence for 32 years. Mrs. Lawrence is survived by her brother, Carl Jacob Barton, Jr. (Connie) of Rosemark, TN; two sons, John Thomas Lawrence, Jr. (Charleen) of Cordova, Keith Barton Lawrence (Andrea) of Brentwood, TN; two grandchildren, John Thomas Lawrence, III (Melody McAnally) and Collin Lawrence Johnson; three great grandchildren, Larkin and Greta Johnson and Marshall McAnally Lawrence. Visitation will be 10 - 11 a.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. at Memphis Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Memphis Alumni Association or TN Fisher House Foundation.
