Obituary

Carlene Prairie Yarmowich , 87, of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away on January 28, 2021.

Carlene was born in Alburgh, Vermont on August 4, 1933. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Carlene received her Nursing BA degree from College of St. Rose, Albany, New York, and thrived in and out of the profession for many years until retiring from St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, in 2004. Carlene lived a full life dedicated to her Catholic faith, her family, enjoying conversation and games with friends, a commitment to nursing, and keeping her rambunctious children and grandchildren on the straight and narrow. Carlene moved extensively across the country during her husband's early career which resulted uniquely in the birth of her five children in different states across the country, stretching from New York to Washington with Texas, Mississippi, and Kansas in between. Carlene and family moved to Memphis in 1973. Carlene enjoyed guiding the successful growth of her children and particularly relished hosting and celebrating holidays with them.
Carlene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Peter Yarmowich, her parents, Sadie and Rene Prairie, as well as her siblings, Loraine Yarmowich, Anita Hunter, and beloved cousin Bernard Prairie.

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Megan of Plattsburgh, New York, and brother, Rudy Prairie of Alburgh, Vermont; her children, Marianne (Scott) Walsh of Thompson Station, Tennessee, R. Keith (Dana) Yarmowich of Cordova, Tennessee, Patricia (Richard) Enyart of Germantown, Tennessee, Steven (Hillary) Yarmowich of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brian (Danna) Yarmowich of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; her close cousin Maurice Prairie of Germantown, Tennessee; ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A private, family-only service will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021. A full celebration of Carlene's life will take place later when friends and family can gather safely.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations, in Carlene's name, to the Alzheimer's Association.
