IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Ann
Hendrix
February 3, 1938 – July 7, 2025
Carol Ann Green Hendrix, 87, of Somerville, TN, passed away July 7, 2025.
Carol was born to E. Howard and Opal (Flanagan) Green on February 3, 1938 in Abilene, TX. She was an only child, grew up in Abilene, and graduated from Abilene High School. She loved drawing and art.
After high school mom attended Harding College, Searcy, AR, where she met the love of her life -- Weldon L. Hendrix. They married in May, 1959 and began their nearly 62 years of life together in Rawlins, WY. They later moved to TX, where Greg and Pam were born.
While dad served in the National Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis, mom worked at the Rio Vista "Cow Pasture Fly-In" Bank, developing skills that would serve her well later. She later helped dad run an owner-operated Sinclair gas station & grocery in Joshua, TX, while homemaking and managing the needs of two growing children.
After dad took a job with the US Dept of Agriculture, the family moved frequently – 5 times in 4 ½ years in one span -- to accommodate promotion opportunities. Mom would often pack the house and keep the home fires burning as dad would be sent ahead of the family to begin work in the new location. Mom would ensure we could finish the school year without interruption.
Memphis eventually became "home" in 1970. In 1974, mom and dad desired to provide their children the best Christian education available. Mom returned to the financial world, joining Leader Federal Savings & Loan to provide Pam and Greg the opportunity to attend Harding Academy. Mom began as a teller, but soon found her skills were needed in other branch operations. Mom often trained her new managers. She retired from Leader Federal in 1997 as a assistant branch manager.
After retiring, mom and dad combined their joy of travel and love of serving others by joining the Sojourners. They traveled all over the country helping schools, children's homes, and camps by painting and repairing, and churches with knocking doors to invite folks to VBS or Gospel meetings, and helping share the love of Jesus with others. They were active members of Henderson Church of Christ, and loved their church family.
Mom's faith and love of the Lord and ensured her children grew up knowing Him. One of our fondest memories is her reading Bible Stories to us each night before prayer time. Her life centered around serving others, her husband, taking care of her children, and loving on her grand and great grandchildren. She exemplified what a strong Christian spouse, mother, and grandmother looks like to all around her, reflecting Christ's love to all who knew her. She was ready for his reward.
Mom is preceded in death by her husband, Weldon L. Hendrix (2021). She's survived by her son Greg (Kathy) of Downingtown, PA, daughter Pam Treadway (Doug) of Somerville, TN. Grandchildren – Ashley Jirgl (Ryan), Long Island, NY, Danielle Brown (Keilor), Harleysville, PA, David Hendrix (Kelly), Philadelphia, PA; Savannah Hubbard (Jonathan), Bolivar, TN, Brandon
Treadway (Audrey), Whiteville, TN. Great grandchildren – Annabelle, Melanie, Reed, and Owen Hubbard, Bolivar, TN; Braya Jirgl, Long Island, NY.
There will be a family graveside service held on Saturday, July 12th at Forest Hill Funeral Home on Whitten Road.
