Carolyn Haynes Cherry, 91, passed away on June 7, 2013. She was born on May 5, 1922 in Paris, TN. She attended State Teachers College in Memphis until World War II began. She contributed to the war effort by working at the Army Defense Depot in the steno pool. Carolyn aspired to be the Secretary to the Commanding Officer and once she obtained the prestigious position, she held it until she retired to be a homemaker. Carolyn was married to Cecil Haggard Cherry from 1947 until his death in 1985. She is survived by her daughters, Ava Lynn and Lee Ann Cherry. She leaves a legacy of a well lived life: she was a wonderful wife, caring mother, and active in St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 10th with services held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11th, at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memphis Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 1362 South Prescott, Memphis, TN 38111.
