IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn Ann
Harwell
September 16, 1942 – July 14, 2024
Carolyn Ann Cook Harwell was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 16th, 1942, to Thomas Herschel Cook (Herschel) and Rowena Pulley Cook and passed away surrounded by her family on July 14th, 2024, in Dallas, Texas.
In 1963 Carolyn graduated from Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis Tennessee. She served as a Registered Nurse in the hospital system and cared for thousands of patients treating them with professionalism and love. The Harwell home was known as a place to be for friends and family to drop in. Over the years the family took in many foster babies and cared for them while they were being placed in a permanent family.
In 1992, three years after the sudden death of her husband, Bobby Joe Harwell, she moved to Dallas Texas to be closer to her family and grandchildren. Once there, she continued to work as a school nurse until she retired in 2007.
While sewing may be considered a lost art by some, Carolyn kept it vibrantly alive. Over the years, she lovingly crafted over 600 dresses for children in foreign orphanages and created dozens of intricate quilts for her grandchildren and friends. Her unwavering passion for serving others remained a constant throughout her life, touching countless hearts with her dedication and love.
Carolyn was a beloved and cherished member of Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, Texas. For 12 years, she lovingly taught children's Sunday School classes, always incorporating craft times to make her lessons memorable and impactful. Her dedication and warmth touched the hearts of many, leaving a lasting impression on the lives of the children she taught.
Born an only child, Carolyn celebrated the fact that with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren she was now part of a tribe of 24 people! She left a note saying, "I have cherished every moment of my children's and grandchildren's lives."
Carolyn is preceded in death by her father, mother, and husband. She is survived by her daughter Alecia Harwell Click (husband Joey) and children Spencer (wife Ana and daughter Sofia), Chandler (wife Alexandria and son Connor) and Elizabeth of Midlothian, Texas, daughter Natalie Harwell Johnson (husband Daniel) and children Bailey and Alec of Gig Harbor, Washington, son John (wife Jennifer) and children Ashlyn (husband Stevie) and Lacey of Ovilla, Texas, son Ben (wife Lori) and sons William, Nathan, Jackson, and Weston of Cedar Hill, Texas.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, August 12 at 10:00 am with a viewing and visitation with family from 9:15-10:00. All are welcome.
