Obituary

Carolyn Jones was born November 25, 1932 in Whitfield, Alabama to Guy Lafayette and Ruth (Meals) McDaniel. After a move to Henry, Tennessee in her younger years she attended and graduated from the Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis. On January 9, 1955 she married Sidney Jones in Memphis. They had three children: Craig (Carol) of Searcy, Arkansas, Tom (Adriana) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Suzanne of Collierville. Carolyn worked at Le Bonheur Hospital, Dr. Richard Miller's Pediatric Clinic, Baptist Hospital downtown, and retired in 1993 after serving at St. Francis Hospital. She retired from this life on June 24, 2016.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and four of her five siblings: Guy, Bill, Helen Lowe, and Dan. She is survived by her children, six grandchildren: Rees (Shanna) Jones of Searcy, Elaine Jones of Memphis, and Christina, Helena, and Michael Jones of Charlotte, North Carolina, two great-grandsons (Brodie and Baker Jones of Searcy) and her sister Nancy Mabry of Coldwater, Mississippi. There are many nephews and nieces.

Mom/Grandma was a graduate of Henry High School in Henry, Tennessee, where she was an all-star basketball player for the Purple Pirates. Carolyn worshiped at the Union Ave., Kimball Ave., Quince Rd., Southwind, and most recently Forest Hills churches of Christ. She was also a member of the DAR and the First Families of Tennessee. She was known for her sharp wit, her keen mind, her compassion as a nurse, and her friendship to many at church, among the nursing profession, and within her family.

Memorials may be made to your local hospice, cancer, Alzheimers, or ALS foundations, to Memphis Harding Academy, or to a charity of your choice. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 28 from 5:00-7:00, and the funeral on Wednesday, June 29 at 10:00, both at the Forest Hills Funeral Home, East on Whitten Road. in Memphis. The burial will follow at Memphis Funeral Home on Germantown Road.
