Cathy Harpole
Church
Feb 8, 1927 — Oct 3, 2021
Cathy Harpole Church, known as Mimi by her family, passed into glory on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Born on February 8, 1927, to Walter Berry and Pallie Houlk Harpole, she grew up in Maben, Mississippi with her sister and five brothers. Following her graduation from Maben High School, Cathy moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she secured a bookkeeping position at Oak Hall and enrolled at Memphis State University. While attending McLemore Presbyterian Church, she joined a group of women writing letters to members serving in the armed forces. In God's providence, Cathy was assigned Eugene C. Church as her correspondent -- the young airman she later met and married. Rearing four children, Cathy continued serving in the women's ministry and pursued a variety of hobbies including sewing, ceramics, and quilting. Cathy developed a passion for auctions and antiques and became an avid gardener, growing her prized day lilies and irises. She held various positions at Kellogg's during her professional career, becoming a member of the Twenty-Five year Club prior to her retirement.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Church, and her grandson, Peyton Church, as well as her parents and siblings. She is survived by her four children, Catherine Church Wasson(David), Eugene Conner Church, Jr., Charles Michael Church, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Church; five grandchildren, David G. Wasson, Jr., Walter Eugene Harpole Wasson, Christy Church McAfee, Charles Michael Church, Jr. and Eugene Conner Church, III; and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 11, in the Mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Memphis, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to Collierville Presbyterian Church, Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care, or the Alzheimer's Association. We extend our sincere appreciation and deepest gratitude to the staff at Kirby Pines and Crossroads Hospice who cared for and loved our mother well.
