IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Edwin
Martin Sr.
July 6, 1937 – December 5, 2023
Charles was born in Galesburg, Illinois and moved to Memphis at the age of 15, after the death of his mother, to live with an older brother's family. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at Beverly Hills Baptist Church at the age of 17. He met Mary Head toward the end of 1956 and they were married 6 months later on May 3, 1957. He served honorably in the Marine Corps Reserves and later as a leader with the Boy Scouts. He was a computer programmer for over 40 years before retiring, and then as part-time maintenance with his church before retiring again. He loved spending time with his family. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and DIY projects. He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church and served as an active deacon for many years. He leaves his loving wife, Mary, of 66 years; two sons, Charles Jr. of Chattanooga; Bruce (Cindy) of Cordova; five grandchildren: Nicholas (Katie) Wright; Courtney Martin; Zachary (Bryton) Martin; Austin Ford; Grace Ford; and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Ila May Martin; three brothers: Robert, Cecil Jr, and Franklin Martin.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Briarcrest Christian School or Memphis Union Mission.
