Tech. Sgt. Charles Michael Shands, USAF, age 33, lovingly known to family and friends as Chase, went home to be with the Lord, on Friday, April 14, 2017. He was born on April 13, 1984, in Memphis, TN. He is survived by his mother Brenda Shands, father Dennis Shands (wife Melissa), sister Carmen Bentley (husband Chris, daughter Lauren, and son Nicholas), brother Blake Shands (son Nathan), grandmother Thelma Hankins, along with aunts, uncles, and cousins. Chase was actively serving his country, based at Lewis-McChord AFB, in Tacoma, WA. He had served in the Air Force for 14 years.
We can proudly say that Chase made a lasting impression on everyone he met, with his smile and infectious laugh, which was only surpassed by the size of his heart. His love for adventure and dedication to proudly serve his country are what his family and friends will remember most.
Services will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017, at Forest Hill Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133, immediately followed by a procession to the West TN State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, TN 38125, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the PTSD Foundation of America.
