Charles Edwin Swain Sr. “Eddie,” 94, was born on August 13, 1931, in Natchez, Mississippi, to the late William R. Swain and Katherine Kelly Swain.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William R. Swain Jr.; his beloved son-in-law, Robert W. “Bob” Kenney; his son, Kelly Eugene Swain; and his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 71 years, Joy Milton Swain.

He is survived by his two sons, Charles E. “Chuck” Swain Jr. (Maryann) and Michael D. Swain (Amy); his two daughters, Kathryn S. “Kathy” Kenney and Nancy S. Toney (Gary); twelve grandchildren, Sally Whipple (Bobby), Andy Swain (Andrea), Hunter Swain (Sylvia), Charles E. “Chase” Swain III, Joshua Swain, Nicholas Swain, Stephanie Swain (Josh), twins Michelle Swain and Julia Swain, Brett Toney (Ashley), Brandon Toney (Ashley), and Bradford Toney; three step-grandchildren, Gabby Snead (Christian), Finley Acker, and Kit Acker; fourteen great-grandchildren, Colin (Lilly), Katie (Brandon), Mason (Lauren), Madelyn, Maverick, Preston, Garner, Parker, Savannah, Grayson, Katherine Joy, Cooper, Sebastian, and Luca; and three great-great-grandchildren, Ian, Jay, and Lyanna.

Eddie was a faithful member of Faith Presbyterian Church and, in earlier years, Boulevard Baptist Church.

A proud graduate of Southside High School’s Class of 1949, Eddie served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal in recognition of his military service.

Following his time in the Air Force, Eddie founded Swain and Sons Transport, building a successful family business through hard work, integrity, and dedication. He later retired after many years in the transportation industry.

Eddie was an avid gardener who took great pride in his home and yard, earning “Yard of the Month” honors many times over the years. He lovingly maintained his yard until moving to StoryPoint Germantown.

His seven months at StoryPoint Germantown brought him tremendous joy. He especially looked forward to the live bands every Friday, enjoyed the many activities that Tony enthusiastically encouraged him to attend, and cherished the friendships he formed with fellow residents. The kindness, companionship, and exceptional care he experienced there brought comfort and happiness during the final chapter of his life.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Regina, Bobo, and the entire StoryPoint Germantown community for their loving kindness, compassionate care, and unwavering support.

Eddie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, hard work, and kindness will continue to live on through the generations that follow.

Pallbearers will be Andy Swain, Hunter Swain, Finley Acker, Brett Toney, Joshua Swain, and Nicholas Swain.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 22, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 1661 Elvis Presley Boulevard. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering and celebrating Eddie's remarkable life.
