Obituary

Charles Wayne Waldon, Sr., known as "CW" passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025. He was born on February 12,1937 in Ripley, Mississippi to the late Willie and Mary Waldon.

As a young man he played football on the front line at Humes High School. In the early 1960s, he became one of the pioneers of boat racing, proudly breaking the 100-mph speed record. Through the late 1960s and early 1970s he built dune buggies for Manx. He later became the first to build and race a big-block Chevrolet engine in his personal sprint cars at Riverside Speedway. He was a true racing enthusiast, following and participating in sprint cars, oval track racing, and quarter mile drag racing. His love for cars extended beyond the track; he was also a devoted car collector.

On April 19, 1959, he married the love of his life, Barbara Faye Waldon and they were married for 63 years before her death in 2020. Together they built a life of hard work, deep love for their family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He built his family home with family and friends in the late 1970's in Shake Rag, Tennessee. He opened and managed multiple divisions within the automobile dealership service departments. He later worked as a maintenance technician and electrician at Firestone Tire and Rubber Plant in Memphis, Tennessee, and as an electrician at Cummins Recon, before retiring in the early 2000s.

Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Faye Waldon, and sister, Edith Garrard.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Wayne Waldon (Pam)  of Millington, Tennessee, Michael Waldon (Candice) of Millington, Tennessee; daughter, Debbie Webb (Jeff) of Atoka, Tennessee; Grandchildren, Kyle Waldon, Josh Boston, Jared Webb, Lynsey Webb; great grandchildren, Brooke Waldon, Ryan Waldon, Ellie Waldon, Benjamin Waldon, Luke C Waldon, and Amelia Webb.

Charles was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be missed dearly and will be in our hearts forever.
