Charline Hurley 91, born January 14, 1926 and died November 16, 2017, was the matriarch of our family, what we know to be family, our traditions, as well taught us our faith, morale, and ethics. Wife to the late Carl Hurley and Mother to 3 daughters, Bonnie Ambrose of Gulf Breeze, FL, Kathleen Beaugrand of Gulf Breeze FL, and Laura Scott of Oakland TN, and son Russell Hurley of Memphis, TN, who passed away earlier this year. She was Grandmother to 8 grandchildren and Great-grandmother to 11 great- grandchildren. A mother, grandmother, and true friend to us all, Charline Hurley was our world and we were hers. From this one beautiful, authentic person rose 3 generations, and growing, of exemplary individuals. Without a firm foundation, a house cannot stand and Charline was our outstanding foundation of integrity, honesty, strength, spirit, loyalty, and openheartedness. Individuality or selfhood and independence were how Charline demonstrated to us that all things were connected, how to be alone with ourselves, that we could connect to ourselves in that manner of openness, and ultimately, connect to a greater source. Cleanliness was essential to both our character and the backs of our ears. Anything less than authentic, well, she just wouldnt have it, she wouldnt fool with it, and she surely wasnt going to waste her time on it. She created and orchestrated our family traditions, persevering with song and dance through all troubles, pains, and disappointments; with a faith in God that we would.. ....Well,...that we would just figure it out. She taught us that the explanation wasnt always necessary and second to her faith she embroidered a love within us that family comes first. That our blood is sacred and contains within it the ancestral spirit of our family. It is through that spirit we will carry on her stoic but stubborn love, maintain her integrity, and uphold her loyalty. She taught by example and lived her life giving Gods healing love by continuously making an effort to connect to those we love and the people and communities we serve, especially those who are poor and vulnerable. Charline carried the most integrity that any individual could ever hope to achieve and it was a blessing to share this life with her and an honor to live up to such a great woman. Sharp as a tack through 91, she passed into the next realm with almost a century chalk full of gratitude for the simple things. Taking the time to sit and listen, rake up all the leaves in the yard just for us to jump in, to picking a switch off the tree, she taught us how to give presence instead of presents. She demonstrated stewardship in every little thing she did, the desire of good for the whole, the respect for all human life and dignity that would never hesitate to tell the truth...even if perhaps you were not ready to hear it. Both honest and forthright but with the wisdom to treat others not as you wanted to be treated, but to treat others how they wanted to be treated with consideration and understanding. Charlines love is interwoven into all we have ever known and is the base of pyramid of cathartic love, faith, morale, and a dancing spirit that shines upward through us as we carry her in our hearts every day. You are still with us whispering in the wind and the earth will keep us grounded as we follow in your example. It was an honor Charline Hurley and we look forward to seeing you again.
