Christopher Fred Scifert, 50, passed away on August 13, 2023.
Chris was born on April 16, 1973 to Kerry and Susan Scifert in Yuma, AZ. He grew up as a military child, but called Huntsville, AL home. He graduated in 1991 from Grissom High School, 1995 from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Engineering Science, and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Dr. Tom Brown's lab at the University of Iowa in 1999.
Chris worked in the biomedical engineering field at Smith & Nephew, Medtronic Spine & Biologics, Orchid Orthopedics, and most recently as Director of Product Development and Implant and Instrument Design at Monogram Orthopedics. He holds multiple patents, most recently being a named co-inventor on one of Monogram Orthopedics' core knee patents.
Chris has been a resident of Bartlett, TN for over 20 years. He has two children, Colin and Cailey, from his first wife, Christine Scifert, and a stepson, Daniel Messerli, from his second wife, Amanda.
Chris is an Eagle Scout and was actively involved in the Boy Scouts for many years as a father. He also achieved two blackbelts. One in Tang Soo Do alongside his brother, Jeff, at Lee's Martial Arts college in Huntsville, Alabama. The other in Taekwondo, which he achieved alongside his son, Colin, at Taekwondo University in Bartlett, Tennessee. He enjoyed fixing vehicles with his daughter, Cailey. He loved boating at Pickwick Lake, being a member of the Midsouth Jeep Club, and traveling and visiting with family and friends. He was also the biggest supporter of his children's soccer careers. He was at virtually every game and every tournament.
Chris was an organ donor, which will give back to others, something which he believed in and lived every day.
Chris leaves behind his immediate family: son Colin, daughter Cailey, stepson Daniel, mother Susan, brother Jeff, sister-in-law Alana, nephew Drake, niece Arden, and Christine, mother of Colin and Cailey; his extended family: in-laws David and Leslie Tisdale and brother-in-law Brian Tisdale; and longtime girlfriend, Kim Coleman. He was preceded in death by his father, Kerry, and his wife, Amanda.
A celebration of life will be held at 9:00 – 11:30 AM on Sat, Aug 19, 2023 at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133. A gathering / light h'orderves will follow at Ellendale Baptist Church in the back gym building, 3861 Broadway Rd, Bartlett, TN 38135, from 12:00 - 2 PM for anyone who would like to continue visiting. The family requests that memorial tributes be made in lieu of flowers in Chris Scifert's name to his favorite charity: the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/donate.html).
