Southaven - Clara Mae Fox passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 15, 2013 after celebrating her 95th birthday just last week on February 7th. She was born in Calhoun County, Mississippi to John and Frances Spencer in 1918. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 75 years, Jessie Lee Fox, who greeted her at heaven's gate. Waiting with him to welcome her were her sons, Thomas Lamar Fox, James Howard Fox and Tommy Lee Fox. I know it was a joyous reunion in the presence of her blessed Savior, Jesus Christ. She leaves behind two daughters, Jean Smith (Travis) of Germantown, TN and Pamela Avent of Tupelo, Mississippi along with her daughters-in-law, Carol Fox and Jan Fox of Memphis. The Lord blessed her with fourteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she dearly loved. She also leaves a number of nieces, nephews and family members who were a very special part of her life. She was a resident of Southaven, Mississippi for the past twenty-two years after having lived in Memphis since 1949. She joined Broadway Baptist Church shortly after moving to Memphis and was extremely active there until her health made it hard for her to attend services. However, she continued to love her church, and we are so grateful for the love demonstrated by the church staff and members by their frequent visits with her. The family also would like to express great appreciation to the staff at Bright Glade Convalescent Center for their loving care during her stay there this past year. After being a stay-at-home wife and mother during her early years, she bought and managed fresh produce markets in south Memphis and later took an active part in a family automobile business. After retiring, she greatly enjoyed spending time with her regular card groups and with family members. We shall all miss her quick wit and loving smile. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19 at Forest Hill South with services immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery South.
