Clarence Major Philpot, age 80, a Somerville, Tennessee resident and husband of Catherine Thompson Philpot, departed this life Friday morning, December 20, 2024, at Kings Daughters and Sons Home in Bartlett, Tennessee.

Major was born April 14, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late Clarence Weston Philpot and Beatrice Posey Crawford. He was a graduate of Humes High School in Memphis, Tennessee. After serving in the United States Army, Major returned to his employment at Henry T, Smith Co., Inc., which he later became the owner of until his retirement. He married Catherine on August 22, 1969, and this year celebrated a happy 55 years of marriage.

Major enjoyed traveling with his family, showing himself a loving father and grandfather. He was a member of the Mid-south Flywheelers, the Memphis Model Power Boat Association, and a member of Shiloh Methodist Community Church. He loved to tinker in his shop and to fish.

Major is survived by his wife; his sons, Patrick Shane Philpot and his wife Stephanie Anne Philpot, and Jason Adam Philpot and his wife Bobbie Jo Philpot; and his grandchildren, Weston Lee Philpot, Lindsay Macleod Philpot, Skyler Elyse Philpot, and Penelope June Philpot.

In addition to his parents, Major was preceded in death by his stepfather, Chancey Millard Crawford, and his granddaughter, Lillian Hazel Philpot.
