Clayton "Gilbert" Lewis passed from this earthly home and stepped into the presence of his sweet savior, Jesus, on March 18, 2018 at 12:12 AM. He was with his precious wife of nearly 56 years, JoNell. Gilbert was very well loved by so many. He touched lives everywhere he went. He met the love of his life in August of 1961. Gilbert asked JoNell to marry him on their first date. They married March 25, 1962. They had two children. Lance Clayton Lewis was born on Feb. 18, 1963. Lance married Patrice Dec. 12, 1987 and they have three children: James Clayton, Nathan Scott, and Kathryn Jean. Wallace Lynde Lewis was born on May 6, 1965. Lynde married Denise June 14, 1998 and they have two children: Grace Mae and Sofia Adele.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Bertha Lewis; his sister, Margie Chapman; and his nephews: Richard, Matthew, and Joe. He is survived by his wife, JoNell; sons, Lance(Patrice) and Lynde(Denise); his sister, Bernice Register; nieces, Sheila, Christy, Beth, and Pam; and grandchildren: Clayton, Nathan, Katie, Grace, and Sophia. Gilbert retired from Delta Airlines after 38 years of service. He loved working with people!

Gilbert was a member of Collierville First Baptist Church since 1986. He served as a deacon there for many years. After he retired from Delta, he worked for the church in the Christian Activities Center so he could continue to work with people and serve them.

Gilbert will always be remembered for his sweet smile, quiet demeanor, and his loving Godly spirit. He will be greatly missed by many. In the sweet words of a dear friend we will be with him again, "I will see you again here, there, or in the air!"
