|
Darren Jay Hensley, 53, of Memphis, TN, was born February 25, 1965 in Osceola, Arkansas and passed away Monday, December 24, 2018. He lived his entire life in Memphis, TN. He was a member of Rosemark Baptist Church. Darren loved hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. He enjoyed sports, playing football, basketball, and baseball in his early years, and enjoyed golf later in life. He played on The Travelers team that won the State Championship in 1979. Darren also loved darts and competed nationally with some of his best friends. He earned several awards for his excellence work performance while at Sherman Williams and W M Barr and finally at Reynolds American. He prided himself in learning, mastering and excelling at everything he did, at work as in life. His greatest pleasure as an adult was to spend time at his cabin which he had built with friends in Saulsbury, TN on the land where his father was raised. He loved sharing his oasis with his friends and family. It was here that he felt the most at peace. Darren was a very giving person. He started several years ago giving lunches to the homeless on Christmas Eve, to give them hope. The last text to his sister Sherri sums up how Darren viewed life. "Money comes and goes…friends and family mean a lot more to me." And anyone who knew Darren, knew that is exactly how he lived his life. Darren is survived by his sisters, Robin Haner (Dave) and Sherri Cannon (Mark); a niece Kristin Bobo (Eric) and three nephews, Andrew Haner (Yasmin), Joshua Haner (Carla) and James R Haner; his stepfather, Jim Sargent; his great-nieces, Sophie Bobo and Sawyer Haner; great-nephew, Noah Bobo and numerous other family members and friends. All will miss him as he was a special addition to each of their lives. Preceding him in death, his father, J.D. Hensley and mother, Marlyn Hensley Sargent. The family asked that any donations go to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Memphis Union Mission |
