David Lee
Jones
May 23, 1951 — Sep 14, 2026
Olive Branch, Mississippi
David Lee Jones, age 75, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi.
David was born on May 23, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late James C. Jones Sr. and Marene Smart Jones. He was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, friend, and faithful servant of God who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
David shared 53½ years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carolyn “Elaine” Jones. Their life together was built on faith in the Lord, love, devotion, laughter, and a deep commitment to one another. Elaine was the love of David’s life and called him her soul mate.
David was a dedicated member of Goodman Oaks Church of Christ for many years, remaining active until his health began to decline. His faith was evident in the way he lived his life. Even as he faced his own health challenges, David was faithful in remembering others in prayer. His continued concern for others was a true reflection of his faith and his caring heart. He was always willing to help someone in need and was the kind of person who volunteered without being asked. Serving others and caring for the people around him came naturally to David.
He was also known for his warm personality and wonderful sense of humor. David never met a stranger and had a gift for making people laugh. He was personable, funny, and always loved to tell a story. He had a nickname for almost everyone and loved spending time with family and friends he cherished.
David was a hard worker who was known for his dedication and loyalty. He spent 27½ years with Memphis Light, Gas & Water in Electric Distribution, where he worked with lead cable and eventually served as a crew leader. David was reliable and took his responsibilities seriously. After retiring from MLGW in December 1999, he continued working as an electrician at Libertyland Theme Park in Memphis until the park closed. He later worked at the DeSoto County Schools Bus Barn and as a sales representative for Fastenal before retiring.
David and Elaine shared a love of traveling, enjoying trips together as a couple as well as adventures with family and friends. Some of their fondest memories were made along the way, surrounded by the people they loved. They also shared a special affection for their beloved dogs, Magnum and Hershey, who held a cherished place in their hearts and were an important part of their family.
David enjoyed many activities and interests throughout his life, while also finding opportunities to serve others. In his younger years, he was active in basketball, serving as captain of his high school basketball team during his senior year, and was elected president of his senior class. He later enjoyed playing men’s softball through church and also restoring classic cars. He loved watching NASCAR and drag racing and had a great appreciation for antique cars. Some of his fondest memories were made cheering on the Memphis Grizzlies with Elaine and his mother-in-law, Helen, whom he affectionately called “Outlaw.” His playful explanation was that “outlaws are wanted,” while in-laws, maybe not so much.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53½ years, Carolyn “Elaine” Jones; his mother-in-law, Helen L. Stewart; his brother, Jay Mike Jones (Marian); brothers-in-law Charles R. Stewart (Anita) and James W. Stewart; cousin Linda Brannan (Bob); nieces Jamie Jenkins, Katie Kettler (Blayton), Sarah Stewart, and Kelsey Jones-Hernandez (Daniel); great-nieces Valerie Stewart and Cora Kettler; nephews Jesse Stewart, Joshua Stewart, and Nathan Stewart; and great-nephew Cohen Kettler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Jones Sr. and Marene Smart Jones; his brother, James C. Jones Jr.; and his father-in-law, James R. Stewart.
“…Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Goodman Oaks Church of Christ. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m., with interment immediately following at Forest Hill South Funeral Home & Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be considered for Goodman Oaks Church of Christ, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the Tunica Humane Society.
David’s life was defined by his faith, the people he loved, the people he helped, and the joy he brought to those around him. His family and friends will carry his stories, his laughter, his kindness, and his love with them always.
