David Elder Patteson, 79, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at his home in Memphis, TN. He was born on November 21, 1935 in Charlotte, NC. He attended the Pentecost-Garrison School and was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy. He obtained his degree from the Memphis College of Art. He worked as an artist for 43 years at The Commercial Appeal. He was a founding member of the Memphis Watercolor Society and was also a member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society. David enjoyed playing tennis, fishing in the Spring River, and watersports. He was preceded in death by his parents Marie Rosebrock Patteson and James S. Patteson Jr. and brothers, Norton Patteson and Kerry Patteson. He leaves behind daughters, Sloane Taylor, Claire Patteson, and Deborah Scott of Memphis; one son, David E. Patteson Jr. of Biloxi, MS; four grandchildren, Lauren (Brook) Farr of Memphis, Christopher (Libby) Taylor of Huntsville, AL, Catherine Taylor of Memphis, and Jordan (Ana) Scott of Sacile, Italy; two great grandchildren, Harrison and Posey Farr of Memphis; and by brothers James S. Patteson III of Knoxville, TN and Starke (Kay) Patteson of Puerto Rico. A memorial service will be held at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2015. The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or organization of choice.
