David Reed Pitts, 84, of Memphis, passed away on December 28, 2012. He was born in Ecru, MS on October 19, 1928, and was an Army Air Corps veteran, where he served four years pursuing the love of his life, flying airplanes. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He worked for the U.S. Corp of Engineers in the Memphis District until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Pitts also served as a Reserve Police Officer from 1970-82. Although he never married, he was a family man through and through. David was an active member of Chambers Chapel United Methodist Church and the Hanger Club at Charles Baker Airport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie and Clyde (Patterson) Pitts, his brother Kenneth Pitts, his sister, Mary Jane Pitts (Henderson), brother-in-law Roy Henderson, and his nephew Dan Henderson. He is survived by his nephew, Greg Pitts (Ginny); his nieces, Debbie Foote (Beau); Gayle Ward, Amy Montgomery (Bob) and their children; and his sister-in-law, Lynn Pitts. Service will be Monday, December 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home.
