Powers
Apr 27, 1952 — May 19, 2022
David Michael Powers, Mike to his friends and Family
Born April 27, 1952
Died May 19, 2022
Age 70 years old
Mike leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories and his great sense of humor.
Mike was born in Sanford, NC. but he grew up in the Dunlap Orphanage in Brighton, Tennessee. He enjoyed his life there with the other children, many of whom he viewed as family. And in the summer of 1969, he met the love of his life, Peggy Jean Stewart. They married on December 18, 1971.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1976 and became a Security Police Officer. After three years, he requested to be discharged so he could become one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was baptized on March 29, 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Evander and Helen Marie; his brothers Charles, Tommy, Johnny and Patrick; and his nephew Robert Moore.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Peggy Powers; his first daughter DeAnna Campbell of Horn Lake, MS and her husband Eric and grandson Ryder Simmons; his second daughter Rebecca Hicks of Horn Lake, MS. and her husband Shane and grandson Jordan Powers. He is also survived by 3 sisters: Sue Lynn Swindle of Clintwood Virginia; and Zippy Moore and Mandy Johnson of Erwin, North Carolina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews across the South.
Mike loved his family very much and worked hard to provide for them. He loved to talk with people and help anyone in need. He loved food and loved to cook, including his signature rum cakes. Being one of Jehovah's Witnesses brought him great joy as he preached and taught the Bible to others. He visited the Great Smoky Mountains as often as he could. Fishing and riding on a motorcycle were two of his favorite pastimes. He loved peanut butter crackers paired with a bologna sandwich. He loved his little dog, Sissy.
Mike is now at peace. No longer suffering, he waits on Jehovah to wake him.
