Obituary

David Lawrence Wieland, Sr. (Coach) was called home by the Lord, entering the gates of heaven on August 9, 2023, at 1:33 a.m. David's beloved wife of 59 years, Margerite Johnson Wieland (Rita), sat at her husband's bedside, her hand in his, comforting David as he took his
last breath at their home in Eads, Tennessee.

David was born on July 22, 1946, to Kenneth B. and Roqua R. Wieland in St. Louis City, Missouri; he was the second of 4 children. David
graduated from Humes High School in Memphis, TN, class of 1964. He lived an extraordinary life of 77 years, worthy of celebration and tremendous thanksgiving. David was the epitome of determination, hard work, perseverance, resilience, and strength. Doing everything he could to provide for his family, David worked several jobs throughout his lifetime, often working multiple jobs at once. From his first job delivering newspapers during his adolescent years, to the police reserves, to 25 years at SEARS, and all the jobs in-between, David's unwavering work ethic set quite the example for all who knew him. This exemplary trait ultimately led David to a 25-year career in the swimming pool industry, where he proceeded to build his renowned business, Wieland Pools. David dedicated his remaining working years to building and servicing pools, striving to provide the perfect place for his customers and their families to come together and create everlasting memories. After working over 60 years, proving his undeniable determination to provide for his loved ones, David retired just one week shy of Christmas, December of 2012.

David was an avid Church member, guided by the Lord's hand to set out on missionary trips, to help feed the hungry, and to become an active member within his community. He was a God loving man who believed wholeheartedly in the power of faith, lifting his family and loved
ones in prayer daily. David was a loving son, a supportive brother to his 3 siblings, a devoted husband to the love of his life, a dedicated father of 6, grandfather of 17, great grandfather of 24, great-great grandfather of 1, a loyal friend, a mentor to many, and the Memphis Tigers number one fan. He was an honorable man who believed in second chances, valued the well-being of others, always strived to be a man of his word, and led with a prominent sense of valor. David was undeniably strong-willed, a natural born fighter. While he was known to have a bit of a temper, David had a way of grounding himself, acknowledging his imperfections, taking accountability for his actions, and apologizing when he knew he should. He had a big heart and cared deeply for others, investing in them his attention, his time, and his invaluable wisdom.

Those who understand the significance of the phrase, "The key is..." undoubtedly sat through one of David's notorious talks where he instilled his often unsought, yet well-intended advice. His words had an unceasing capability of imbedding themselves into the souls of others; to be carried on for lifetimes. With an infectious smile and an unforgettable, bellowing laugh, David L. Wieland, Sr. made an immeasurable impact on so many lives, building a remarkable legacy to be remembered by for generations to come.
In the words of our beloved David, "The key is... faith, family, and T•I•G•E•R•S, TIGERS!"
