David Wilson Smith, 95, of Memphis, TN died Wednesday, August 23, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was retired from Borg Warner Corporation where he was a control analyst and a consultant for them. Mr. Smith was a member of Richland Baptist Church and a WWII Army veteran where he was a Staff Sergeant in the 459th Amphibian Truck Company. He was in the battle of Normandy, Rhineland, Southern France, Central Europe, D Day +1, Omaha Beach, and the Normandy invasion. His decorations and citations included the EAME Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Distinguished Unit Citation. He was a graduate of Guntown High School (MS) and the Federal Institute Business College in Tyler, TX. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lillian Adelle Trout; children, Sarah S. Lim (Rudolf), David W. Smith, Jr., Rodney B. Smith (Susan), Cheryl S. Goldsby (Ken); grandchildren, Stephanie and Rachel Lim, Shea Driver (Kevin), Ashley Bryan (Dana), Daniel and Caleb Smith, Nathalie, Callie and Maggie Goldsby, Libby Lynn (Michael), Lillian Markham (Cody) and Abby Collins (Will); great-grandchildren, Gracie Elliot and Cooper Driver, Brooklyn, Rhodes and Emma Markham. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Edward and Linda Rilla Richey Smith and his granddaughter, Christy Goldsby. Visitation will be 9-10 A.M., Saturday, August 25, 2012 with services to follow at 10 A.M. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. Interment will be in Forest Hill East Cemetery.
