Don Wallace Oliver, 83, passed away February 27, 2017 after a short illness. He was born July 7, 1933 to Bertha and Newman Wallace Oliver.
He graduated from Henry County High School and attended Murray State University. After one year of college he joined the Army. Upon honorable discharge, he returned to Murray State on the GI Bill completing a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and a minor in History. He moved to Memphis and was employed by Buckeye Cellulose, a division of Proctor & Gamble for over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Babs Oliver. Don is survived by his daughter Donna Oliver Hale (Brian) and his faithful feline companion Sidney. He will also be missed by his "grand" cats and "grand" dog.
He enjoyed fishing, cars, playing the guitar and eating out. He attended Bartlett Hills Baptist Church, was a member of Mid South Legacy Outfitters and claimed Jesus as Savior.
Services for Mr. Oliver will begin with visitation at 12:30 p.m. on March 6, 2017 at Forest Hill Funeral Home East and services following at 2:00 p.m. Interment will also be at Forest Hill Funeral Home Cemetery at 2440 Whitten Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Fayette County Animal Rescue, Tunica County Humane Society or the charity of choice.
