Obituary

Doris Violet (McVay) Stewart, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 11, 2020 after a decades long battle with Alzheimer's and spent Easter with our Lord and Savior.  In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband of 26 years, Robert A. Stewart; her parents George and Ova Lee McVay; her siblings Jim, Autus, Billy, Sibyl and Opal.  She leaves behind her only daughter, Emily Smith and husband, Nelson, of McKinney, TX; her granddaughter Madison Skelton and husband, Jason of Memphis, TN; her grandson Taylor Smith and wife, Katie, of Dallas, TX; two great-grandsons, Hudson and Watson Skelton, another expected great-grandson with Taylor and Katie; and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was a graduate of Tupelo High School, earned an associate degree and became a phlebotomist.  She married Robert of Memphis, TN on October 31, 1965.  Robert was a WWII Army veteran and worked at the Memphis Defense Depot after he was honorably discharged.  They lived in Southaven, MS for many years.

She loved singing, cooking, gardening, and reading the Bible. She prayed beautiful prayers.  She lived to see and love her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a lifetime Methodist, a member of Stonebridge United Methodist Church since moving to McKinney, TX in 1999.  While living in Memphis she was an active member of Madison Heights United Methodist Church.  She loved serving the church and GOD.

Due to current restrictions, there will be no public funeral.  In-lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association of America at alz.org
