If it's possible for heaven to get any sweeter, it just did. Doris Lynn Fry W est , 92, stepped into eternity with her Savior on February 6 th . She was preceded in death by her parents, George and M yrtle Fry, and her husband, James Donald W est, S r . She leaves behind her three children, J an et W est Hoselton , J ames D onald W est, J r ( J ana) and Sandra West A lexander ( C hris, deceased) ; five grandchildren , Greg Hoselton , Natalie W hytsell ( M att), E mily B ritton ( A ndy), R achel C rockarell ( C hip) and M adison A lexander ; and 10 great grandchildren with one and hopefully more on the way .
A native of Memphis, Tennessee she graduat ed from M essick H igh S chool then studied art under S ergei B ongart . She was a free-lance artist for many years , worked as a paste-up artist for Memphis Shoppers News , and later was staff artist for T iger T ales M agazine (Memphis State University ) . Although she was very successful in those careers, her main love was to be a wife and mother. She attended Cherry Road Baptist Church for almost 5 0 years where she taught vari ous Sunday School classes. She later moved to Southaven, Mississippi.
Some of the ch aracteristics we loved most about our mother /Nana was her integrity, humility, dry wit, gentleness , loyalty to her family, and her love and faithfulness to her L ord and S avior, Jesus Christ . Her desire was to "live on purpose " every moment and in every area of her life , which she did.
1 Corinthians 13 describes who M om/ N ana was to us:
Nana was patient. Nana was kind. Nana did not envy. Nana did not boast. Nana was not proud. Nana did not dishonor others. Nana was not self-seeking . Nana was not easily angered. Nana kept no record of wrongs. Nana did not delight in evil, but she rejoiced with the truth. Nana always protected , always trusted , always hoped, and always persevered . Nana knew that love never fails.
We adore M omma/ N ana – still .. . s he just has a new and permanent address .
