Dorothy Terrell Benson, age 90, of Byhalia, Mississippi passed away peacefully on August 1, 2021. She was born February 21, 1931, in Water Valley, Mississippi. She was Valedictorian of her class in 1949. She was point guard on her high school basketball team all throughout high school. She worked as a secretary for the Shelby County Bankruptcy Court Clerks Office. She made fond memories with her late husband, Leon Benson, enjoying camping, gardening, watching Memphis State Men's Basketball, and most of all spending time her family . She loved to sew and cook, feeding people was her passion.

She is survived by her daughter Gloria Bell of Boca Raton, Florida, daughter-in-law Barbara Benson of Byhalia, Mississippi, two grandsons Kevin Benson and (Deanna) of Olive Branch, Mississippi and Josh Bell (Brooke) of Coral Springs, Florida and her loving, devoted special caregiver and  granddaughter Katie Loyd (Andrew) of Byahalia, Mississippi along with six great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leon Hardy Benson, her son Terry Lee Benson, and her son-in-law Louis Sidney Bell, Jr. She is also preceded in death by her parents Clifton Earl Terrell and Annie Belle Vick Terrell, as well as seven siblings; Nathan Earl Terrell, Mary Annis Goodwin (James), Frances Stewart (LC), Charles Henry Terrell (Catherine), Annie Mae Marchbanks (Tom), Hazel Janette Marchbanks (Claude), and Bobby Dean Terrell She was the last living child of eight children.

Services will be on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery - East Chapel, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133. Visitation will be held at 12:00 OM with services to follow at 1:00 PM. She will be buried beside her husband Leon, at Forest Hill - Cemetery South, Memphis, TN 38118.
