Dorothy D. Brazzel, 86, of Gainesville, FL, formerly of Memphis, peacefully passed away on December 26, 2015. She graduated from Humes High School in 1947 and became a cosmetologist, ultimately owning her own beauty parlor through the 1960's. She also owned and operated, with her husband, Brazzel's Floor Covering, for 46 years. She was an active, long time, member of Church of the Good Shepherd where she served in many roles with the Episcopal Church Women. She was a tireless Christian servant, always cheerfully helping with the church bazaar and rummage sales. She was naturally curious and intelligent and loved reading, playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles and studying her son's JAMA periodicals for "fun". She was preceded in death by her dear husband and best friend of 66 years, Dibrell A. Brazzel; she is survived by a sister, Jeannie Burnham (Ray) of Southaven, MS; her son, Dr. Richard Brazzel (Elizabeth) of Gainesville, FL ; daughter, Dana Strauss (Greg) of St. Louis, MO; and four grandchildren: Isabel and Gabrielle Brazzel, Caroline and Gregory Strauss. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 8 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 9 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1971 Jackson Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, Discretionary Fund.
