Dorothy Ann Powers Buford, 88, of Southaven, MS passed away on November 22, 2016
at Walter B. Crook Nursing Facility in Ruleville, MS. Dorothy was born on May 4, 1928
in Arlington, TN to Blanche and Clarence Powers. She grew up and attended school in
Memphis. On July 12, 1947 she married Hinds H. "Sonny" Buford. She was a loving
wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was an avid letter writer,
gardener, and scrap booker who loved to cook for friends and family. She was active in
her church until the time of her illness. Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother and
stepfather, Blanche and Don Barber; her brother, Bob Powers; her husband of 56 years,
Sonny Buford; a daughter, Gayle Buford Daniels; and a great-grandson, Jeremiah Jones.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Kirkpatrick(Don) of Ripley, TN and Karen
Mollahan(Joe) of Bonita Springs, FL; two sons, Lynn(Sandra) Buford of Cleveland, MS
and David(Susan) Buford of Aurora, IN; one son-in-law, Dale Daniels of Joplin, MO; ten
grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Forest Hill
Funeral Home, South in Memphis, TN on Saturday, November 26th from 12:30-2:00 pm
with a funeral service to follow at 2:00. Rev. Tim Starnes will be officiating. In lieu of
flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Veterans
Association.
