Dorothy Williamson
Schexnayder
Dec 16, 1925 — Sep 19, 2020
Dorothy Williamson Schexnayder, of Collierville Tennessee, passed away on September 19, 2020. She was 94 years old.
"Dot," as she was known by most family and friends, was the fourth of six children born to Cora Farmer and Jones Osbery Williamson in Linden, AL. During the depression the family moved a few times, finally settling in Greenville, MS, where Dot met and fell in love with Norbert Joseph Schexnayder, who she married on January 30, 1948. Dot and Norbert left Greenville, living for a short time in Boston, MA., a longer time in Norfolk, VA., before settling in Memphis, TN. While living in Norfolk, their children Kenneth and Cynthia were born.
Dot was a loving mother to Ken and Cindy, a dedicated career professional in personnel at the VA Hospital in Memphis, a talented practitioner in arts and crafts, and an avid traveler. After retiring from the VA, she and Norbert moved to Collierville, TN., where she became active in the Incarnation Catholic Church community.
The birth of her grandchildren changed so much in her life, including her name. Her first grandchild settled on "Gaga," as her name, which she loved and the family quickly adopted. As one of her grandchildren recently wrote: "You lived, loved, laughed a lot, watched two kids grow up, four grandkids, and four great-grandkids. What an amazing person…."
Dot was predeceased by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters, as well as her beloved husband, Norbert. She leaves her children, Ken and Cindy; her grandchildren Chris, Ryan, Julia and Will; and her great-grandchildren, Maya, Cooper, Reese, and Leah.
