Dorothy (Dottie) Mae Witt, 101, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026 at Storypoint of Cordova. Dottie was the daughter of Albert Knight Gill and Georgie Gill. After the loss of her husband W.T. Witt, Dottie went to work at a factory sewing shirts and went to cosmetology school at night while supporting her only child, Thomas Witt. Dottie moved from Topelo to Memphis to start her manicurist career which she utilized her skills until she retired at age
93. In Memphis, she found a childhood friend, John Hope Sr. who became her loving companion for 60 years until his death. Dottie and John enjoyed finding treasures and then selling them along with visiting the casinos. Dottie was the matriarch of the family making sure everyone was taken care of and always hosted family gatherings. Mrs. Witt is survived by her son, Thomas (Tom) Witt (Guliet Hirsch), grandsons William (Bill) Witt and John Witt, and niece Djuna Gill Schlafer (Mike) along with many bonus family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lucille Jenkins, Ruthie Jacobs and Katie Gill and brothers Frank Gill and Harold Gill.
The visitation will be held at Forest Hill East on Monday August 10, 2026 at 8:30 am with services at 9:00 am. Interment to be at Glenwood Cemetery in Tupelo, MS.
