Dorris Catherine Woods went to be with her Savior and Lord on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. She was born on October 5, 1929, in Lexington, TN, to Hal and Mildred Johnson. Her survivors are her son, Mike Woods (Sally) of El Paso, TX, her daughter, Lisa Woods Cannon (Gary) of Memphis, TN, her grandchildren Josh Woods, Sarah Woods, Chris Cannon, Kara Morgan and Bram Cannon and 8 great grandchildren. Dorris moved to Memphis after graduating Lexington High School to attend business school. She and her spouse of 42 years (Odell Woods) made their home in Memphis. Dorris devoted her life to her husband and children and served them as a wife and mother for most of her life. Her devotion and sacrificial love was a reflection of her love for her Lord. Dorris also served as Sunday School teacher at Cherokee Baptist Church and Kirby Woods Baptist Church for many years, where her life impacted many women of all ages. Her life reflected the qualities of God mentioned in Ps. 103:8 ". . . gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love." A celebration of her life will be held Monday, January 26, at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Kirby Woods Baptist Church, 6325 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN, with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Hill East Cemetery. Her son, Reverend Mike Woods, will officiate. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Kirby Woods Baptist Church, 6325 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.
