Obituary

Eddie Farrell Griffin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at the age of 82, in Savannah, Tennessee. Born on December 16, 1942, in Drew, Mississippi, Eddie was a man whose life was characterized by service, love, and resilience.

Eddie was the cherished son of William Hollis Griffin and Elizabeth Dean Knight Griffin. He grew up surrounded by the warmth of a loving family, but his early years were not without loss. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 of his sisters: Shirley Jean, Linda Faye, Brenda Kaye, and Vickie Lynn, 2 brothers, William Earl and Clarence Allen, and by his former wife, Marian Gammell (the mother of his children).   Despite these profound losses, Eddie carried the spirit of his family with him throughout his life.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Linda Griffin, who stood by his side through life's joys and challenges. They raised his two wonderful sons, David and James, who carry forward the values their father instilled in them. Eddie was the proud Grandfather of three beautiful granddaughters: Marion, Jana, and Alyson Griffin, who brought him immense joy and pride.

In 1960, Eddie answered the call of duty and enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving his country proudly until 1964. His military service instilled in him values of discipline, integrity, and a profound sense of responsibility, traits he carried into his civilian life.

After his time in the Marines, Eddie dedicated himself to public service as a firefighter with the Memphis Fire Department, where he served with honor for 30 years. His commitment to the safety and well-being of others was evident in every call he answered and every life he touched. He retired in the early 2000s, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and dedication.

Eddie was not only a family man but also a devoted brother. He is survived by six sisters: Sandra Joyce, Sheila Dianne, Sherry Gail, Debra Ann, and Toni Marie, who will forever hold memories of their shared childhood and the bonds of sisterhood. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each carrying a piece of his spirit in their hearts.

In addition to his dedication to family and service, Eddie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, often sharing stories of his outdoor adventures with family and friends. Those who knew him will surely remember his hearty laughter and the joy he found in nature.

A celebration of his life will take place on January 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM at 1661 Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee. All who knew Eddie are welcome to come and share in the memories of a remarkable man.

Rest in peace, Eddie Farrell Griffin. Your light will continue to shine in the lives of those you touched.
