Obituary

Verneal, 91 of Macon, went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2023. She was called Grannan by many. She was born on February 18, 1932 in Ramer, TN. She loved her Savior, and was a member at First Baptist Church of Fisherville.  She graduated from Ramer High School as the Salutatorian and enjoyed playing basketball for them. She had a career of over 40 years with Bell South and AT&T and continued to be a member of The Pioneers Club.  Her passion was to be in her magnificent gardens creating the most beautiful views the eye can see. Many memories were made eating her honeysuckles, blueberries, and muscadines right off the plants. She loved to travel to see new sights, read, and crochet personal Christmas ornaments. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and making blankets to keep loved ones warm. She was the strongest woman people had ever met; she was told this often. She would share stories of her childhood in the fields doing the hard labor and harvesting while loving the time with her family. She raised two beautiful children and helped raise her grandson, which kept her youthful spirit all the years of her life. She will have peace in her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents John R. and Mary E. Moore Jones; her husband of 42 years, James Vernon Hicks; her siblings Bessie Page, Vernon Jones, Jimmy Thomas Jones, Shirley Burcham, and Bill Jones.

She is survived by a brother, Bobby Jones (Marilyn); a daughter Sonia Hicks; a son Stan Hicks (Donna); grandsons Cory Hicks (Tegan), Joshua Hicks (Ashley), Collin Hicks (Hayley); step-grandchildren Scott Kellam (Chienny), Courtnie Croley (Jon), Jennifer Taylor (Shane), and Braly Taylor; 6 great-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Collin Hicks, Loyd Jones, Mike Waller, Barry Autry, Brett Autry, and Tim Taylor.
